Please log into Class Dojo in the event your child is not able to attend school due to self isolation, illness or school closure.
If you wish to know further information relating to the curriculum in Class 4 please do not hesitate to speak to Miss Taylor, the class teacher via Class Dojo.
We will be looking at Place Value, the four operations (Addition, Multiplication, Subtraction and Division) alongside fractions and 2D and 3D shapes within the first half term. Quick recall is vital for this; therefore, children should be practising their times tables and number facts frequently at home, alongside the use of Times Table Rockstars.
Our topic for the Autumn Term 1 is ‘The Great Plague’ so our class book will be ‘The Pied Piper of Hamelin’’. This will be supplemented with regular handwriting, spelling and grammar sessions. As you aware, it is very important that your child/children read regularly at home. At school, we suggest that this is for around 15 minutes per evening or at least 3 times a week, alongside the use of Read Theory. St Joseph’s also has the Bug Club initiative, which can also support your child in reading. Thank you for your assistance in supporting this.
We will be focusing on ‘The Bible’. We will learn how to use the Bible correctly and how God speaks to us all through the stories of Abraham, Joseph, Moses and David.
We will be learning about all things Forces, including gravity, friction, water resistance etc. through experiments and investigations.
Class 4 will be looking at physical and mental health – how to keep healthy, habits, change and loss, exercise and feelings surrounding health.
In Art, the children will be creating a variety of different pieces based around the Tudors and black plague.
In Autumn 1, we will look in more depth to The Black Plague. We will be researching the cause, spread, affects etc. Also the similarities and differences to Corona-virus.
In the Autumn term, the children will be creating digital art in a cross-curricular topic in computing.
Children will have outdoor PE on a Monday and Thursday. Please ensure your child comes in their PE kit on these days. Pumps should be worn inside on PE days. Trainers should be in school at all times, so the class can use the track. Thank you for supporting this. For swimming your child will need: a towel, swimming trunks or tight shorts for boys and swimming costumes and swimming cap for girls. If you child needs to wear a goggles, permission is needed. Earrings and jewellery cannot be worn during PE sessions.
Each week, the class will receive English and Maths homework via ClassDojo. Weekly spellings will also be posted on ClassDojo. Please support this weekly homework with your children’s regular reading, use of TTRS and Read Theory.
